Accounting Assistant
Key Responsibilities
- Maintains financial and statistical records and files up-to-date including general and subsidiary ledgers and journals.
- Processes related financial data including posting debits and credits; recording weekly receipts and balances with computer printout; examining and recording financial transactions; allocating charges to proper departmental/company accounts.
- Meet, chase up and keep regular contact with debtors, act as a reminder wherever applicable, provide statement of account and ensure that there is a constant follow up with the Company Attorney.
- Prepares, examines, and analyses accounting records, financial statements, and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
- Arrange for debt repayment or establish repayment schedules, based on customers' financial situations.
- Report to Management any outstanding issues and inform the Accountant early of potential debtors’ problems.
- Compiles financial statements and prepares periodic reports.
- Assists in the collection and checking of financial information for summary reports, including bank reconciliations.
- Assist the Accountant in any ad hoc project assigned.
- Prepares VAT returns and file VAT returns and PAYE (through MNS)
- Acts as back up whenever a team member is out of station/on leave.
Qualifications and Experience
- Higher School Certificate and partly ACCA qualified.
- 2-3 years practical experience in a Finance or Accounting sector.
- Computer literate with ability to learn new software applications.
- Dynamic, hard working, pro-active and pleasant personality.
- Ability to work under pressure and to effectively handle multiple priorities, organise workload and meet deadlines.
- Able to work both independently as well as a member of a team.
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Familiarity in financial analysis, project planning, management, and implementation
